Things you probably didn’t know about Mother’s Day

Moms hug

For the love of mom… as Newman in the show Seinfeld said, it’s the “Mother of all holidays.” About 65 percent of all greeting card sales happen five days before Mother’s Day! It’s the black Friday of greeting card sales. Of course it’s more than cards, in 2015, the National Retail Federation estimated Americans would spend nearly $21.2 billion celebrating Mother’s Day. Back in the day, people observed Mother’s Day by going to church and writing letters to their mothers. It was later that sending cards and giving gifts and flowers was added to the tradition.

It’s also interesting to note that the founder of Mother’s Day was not a mother herself. After the death her mom in 1908, Anna Jarvis wanted a celebration to thank mothers everywhere for all they do. And we continue to do that!! Thanks, mom! Read more about mother’s day HERE
