Born and raised in Motor City, Lisa Lisa grew up in Farmington and graduated from Mercy High School. Her passion for the airwaves kicked into high gear at the University of Michigan, where she joined the student-run station, WCBN, and discovered her love for broadcasting.
From there, Lisa spans her way through notable stations including: WDRQ as Assistant Program Director and a part-time on-air personality, WJLB as Marketing/Promotions Director where she discovered “The Wizard” Jeff Mills, and WHYT where she created and hosted “Open Mic Night” for emerging rappers like Eminem and Kid Rock – talk about a launchpad for legends!
While juggling her radio dreams, Lisa returned to law school at the University of Detroit-Mercy. After passing her state bar exam, she became a practicing lawyer specializing in Entertainment Law and Probate but soon made her return to the radio waves at 93.1 WDRQ. Here, she occupied the evening drive-time slot for nine years and became a beloved club DJ, spinning tracks at Space in downtown Detroit and hosting the electrifying Studio DRQ live.
In addition to her radio career, Lisa was the Public Address Announcer for the Detroit Shock, Detroit’s WNBA Basketball team, at the Palace for ten years and bringing energy to every match.
When she’s not behind the mic, Lisa is an animal rights advocate and a huge supporter of Detroit Dog Rescue, with three rescue dogs of her own. A true car enthusiast, Lisa owns a ‘91 MR-2 Turbo Coupe in mint condition, and is an avid sports fan, cheering on the Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Lions, and Tigers.
